Best English teas

Most of us begin their day with a nice, cup of coffee. It gets us up, makes us more alert, and it helps us overcome that sleepy feeling in the morning. At least until cortisol kicks in. However, not all people do the same. Some people actually have breakfast before, and that breakfast contains tea. It is a healthy alternative, and while you do not have to exclude coffee altogether, you could at least enjoy a cup of English tea. We all know the benefits, and honestly, your stomach would be grateful. Coffee on an empty stomach can lead to gastritis, and in some rare cases, ulcers.

Why English teas? Well, if there is anything for sure is that the English know a thing or two about tea. After all, it is a significant part of their culture. When you go there and order breakfast, a cup of tea is self-explanatory. Not to mention that tea-time is their thing. Also, if you have never had a cup of English tea, you do not know what you are missing. It is actually quite tasty, and if you mix it with milk, cream, or even lemon, you are in for a treat. Add a biscuit, and you have the whole package.

The health benefits of English tea

Leaving aside the fact that English tea is tasty, there are a few health factors in it as well. It is quite convenient to drink something because you like it, but at the same time have some benefits to enjoy. Health benefits nonetheless.

  • It is a powerful anti-oxidant – I shall start with the most common benefit, and that is the fact that English tea is a powerful anti-oxidant. I expect all of you know that by now. It is not only English tea, but many varieties have this effect on the human body. Even so, you should also consider what you put in it when you drink it. Studies show that adding milk or cream to your English tea can affect the tea’s anti-oxidant effect. It is not always a bad thing, but if you are on a cleanse, you should go for something else. You can use lemon if you want. It has electrolytes, vitamin C, and it does not counteract the tea’s anti-oxidant effects. I would lie if I said that it is just as tasty, but if you are looking for the health benefits of English tea, you should leave that aspect aside. It is not horrible, but not great
  • It is good for your cholesterol levels – plenty of adults have issues with their cholesterol, but English tea can help with that. There have been studies on this as well, and it seems that five servings of black tea per day can lower your cholesterol by up to 6.5%. That may not sound much, but add that to a low-fat diet, and your arteries will be thankful. You can reduce the risk of atherosclerosis and other heart diseases. And all you have to do is drink a few cups of tea per day. That does not seem too much, does it?
  • Enjoy the mental perks – if you do not know this already, black tea contains small amounts of caffeine. We all know that caffeine leads to brain stimulation, which is why we drink coffee. However, if you do not like coffee, of the levels of caffeine from coffee are too high for your health, black tea is the ideal alternative. You get to enjoy the benefits without the cons of coffee consumption.
  • Vitamin and mineral supplementation – tea is made out of plants (doh), which is why an infusion is rich in vitamins and minerals. So, if you do not like to take supplements, you can have a few cups of English tea every day.
  • Keep that blood sugar under control – type 2 diabetes is a common disease, and it is not among the easiest ones to deal with. Even healthy people can keep their blood sugar under control, and green tea is known to increase the rate of glucose metabolism.
  • Kidney stone prevention – doctors, will always recommend lots of fluids for people who are prone to develop kidney stones, but black tea is better than water. That is because of the anti-oxidants. Moreover, if you add some lemon, your urine will be more acid, which means that the stones will not form, and if little grains of sand come up, they will be dissolved.

The truth is that I could go on. There are plenty of advantages that come with drinking English tea, black, green, or others. The point is that you have only to gain from consuming it, and I highly recommend that you do.

How to choose the best English tea?

I am sure that there is no shortage of English tea where you live. However, many companies will say that it is English tea that they are selling, just to attract clients. Truth be told, not everything that says English tea on the package is, in fact, English tea, which is why you need to be careful. Here is what you need to look for when you make a purchase.

  • Read some English tea reviews – usually, people who have bought a particular product are the most qualified to tell you whether that product is what it says on the package or not. You can browse through multiple pages and see what is what. That way you know that you spend your money on the real thing. The tea is not expensive, but you can avoid disappointment by reading a little bit about it.
  • Look at the packaging – the main thing to know about this aspect is that you should avoid plastic bags. English tea seems more authentic if it comes in a box. Also, the tea that is placed in boxes will not lose its properties as fast as the ones on paper or plastic bags.
  • One kind vs. assorted – while English tea is often thought to be black tea, in reality, there are multiple assortments. I guess you heard about Earl Grey, which is fact green tea. If you like black tea only, there are products that contain only that as well. However, you also find assorted tea, several mixes, and whatever else you can think of. The magic of the internet, right?
  • Caffeinated decaffeinated – if you are not allowed to consume caffeinated English tea, then you should know that you can also find decaffeinated English tea. Just look at the specifications before purchase. That way you can enjoy the taste without the dangers of caffeine for your health.

What are the best English teas?

That is a question for the ages. I cannot say for sure which of them are the best because I have not tried them all. I did something else, however. I looked for English tea reviews online and picked three of the best products I could find. Hopefully, you will be satisfied with one of them.

Harney & Sons Black Tea, English Breakfast

The English tea from Harney & Sons is your cup of tea (pun intended.) There are 20 sachets of premium quality black tea that will brighten the beginning of your day. You can drink it with either milk or lemon, but either way, the taste is excellent. Thousands of people left positive reviews on this product, which is why I am not hesitating to recommend it to you. The manufacturer even claims that researchers have traced its heritage back to the English tea that was drunk in the 1800’s. I do not know about that, but I thought that I should mention it.

The 20 sachets come in a simple but stylish tin box that will not allow for the flavor to disperse. The tea itself is made from hand-picked Keenum black tea blend. It is a common kind, but people love it, so I do not see why you would not.

To make the perfect cup of tea from this blend, you need to let the sachet steep for 4 or 5 minutes in boiling water before drinking. Of course, if you like your tea stronger, you can leave it in for 5-7 minutes. Keep in mind that the Harney & Sons English breakfast tea is not decaffeinated. It contains between 30 and 50 mg of caffeine.

English Teas Traditions of London Mini Tins

While you can enjoy this product yourself, it can make a wonderful gift for someone you love. That is because the English tea comes in the most adorable packaging. The tins are shaped like three of the most famous icons of London. You have a red telephone box, a red route master bus, and of course, the Big Ben. They are beautifully put together, and I am sure you are going to love it at least as much as I do.

As for what is inside the tin boxes, there are carefully selected traditional blends. You have English breakfast tea, English Afternoon tea, and London tea. Keep in mind that this is loose tea, not sachets, so you need a tea ball (or multiple) to prepare it.

One of the things people do not realize when they buy this product is the miniature part. Plenty of buyers seem disappointed by the size, which is why I want to emphasize the mini aspect. There is a total of 65 grams of tea inside the tins, and the packaging is smaller than you first realize. That is why I think this is best given as a gift for people who like England or the English culture. Plus, you can use the boxes as decorative pieces once the tea is gone.

Taylors of Harrogate Classic Tea Variety Box

Taylors of Harrogate is one of my favorite tea manufacturers. The business took off in 1886, and it is a family business. They have been looking for the finest blends ever since, and the tea they provide is absolutely fantastic. It is difficult to comprehend what a fine-quality tea is until you drink one that is delivered by Taylors of Harrogate.

This particular box includes 48 tea bags. They are assorted, which means that there are 6 tea bags of a different blend. You have English Breakfast tea, Earl Grey, decaffeinated breakfast tea, lemon and orange, pure Assam, green tea with jasmine, organic peppermint, and of course, organic chamomile.

One of the things that impressed me about Taylors of Harrogate is that they do not grow their tea in-house, so to speak. Instead, they go all over the world and bring the best blends they can find. Even so, their prices are not very high. Quite the contrary actually. You will pay very little for the quality you get. The packaging is also nicely done. You get a box in which all the bags are arranged beautifully. I am sure that you are going to love it.

My recommendation

I am that kind of person who has several types of tea in the house. I have a tea blend for every mood, but English tea is one of my favorites. Mostly because I can drink it with milk. With that being said, my favorite tea of the three products above is Harney & Sons Black Tea, English Breakfast. It tastes amazing, I tried it myself, and if you are a regular English tea drinker, you will see that this is one of the best English teas you have ever had.

Conclusion

I know that there is a lot of pressure for a simple cup of tea, but it can actually improve your mood now and then. You know those days when it is cold outside, and all you want to do is lie under a fluffy blanket and drink a nice, hot cup of tea? Well, one of the three teas above will provide that comfort we all need on rainy or snowy days. Enjoy! Click here to buy on Amazon
